What a great rendition... would love to be at that Music City Roots show. As you say, Rob, I think that the roofers will have some work to do after that one  Grin

Plow Through the Mystic, the new album from one of my best favorites, Jeff Black, streams in its entirety at Folk Alley until its official release date, Tuesday November 22nd. Y'all probably know his songs "Same Ol' River", "I Wanna Do Right', "Gold Heart Locket",  and "Circles Around Me" through Sam Bush's versions. Like his B-Sides and Confessions Vol 1(which I listened to again last week), this feels like one of those special albums that will have difficulty rotating off my playlist! http://folkalley.com/music/firstlisten/jeff-black

I wasn't able to make Thanksgiving eve Music City Roots, but did make it to the Franklin Theatre Saturday for the "Jerry Christmas" show. It was a benefit for the toddler grand nephew of a friend who had to have a heart transplant earlier this year. Great cause and excellent musicianship!

The Waymores (www.waymores.net) are among my all-time favorites. The groups is composed of three of the best singer-songwriters anywhere: Don Henry, Sally Barris and Tom Kimmel. They've all written bunches of songs recorded by well-known artists, but I like their own individual versions even better. And as a group they're even more than the sum of their considerable parts. They've just finished the recording on their first album, which isn't yet available except at their shows, but you can see a bunch of their performances on YouTube. Check out this for example:

I was initially excited that Pacific Northwest band Misty River was going to be at Merlefest 2012.

Their 2001 album "Live At The Backgate Stage" is one of my favorites and is available at CD Baby.

Stellar harmonies and musicianship. Also very well recorded.

Highly recommended.

That being said, I'm a little disappointed, but still looking forward to seeing Misty River Band at Merlefest 2012.

They are a  bluesgrass band based in Statesville, North Carolina.

Oops...

Can see why your initial reaction at seeing 'Misty River' mentioned in the lineup got your attention.. some great playing in that video, Craig.

I am sure that the Misty River Band won't disappoint though, on the strength of that video, it would be good to see Misty River sometime.

So.. this week it's the Oysterband's Big Session festival and if you don't hear from me next week it's because I have succumbed to trenchfoot or disappeared in the mud as, since we have had rain almost every day since late April !

Anyway... on a more positive note... for all you Chris Smither fans, make your way to Folk Alley for an opportunity to listen to Chris' new album 'Hundred Dollar Valentine'  Wink

This might be me at the weekend:

While up in Virginia during Merlfest/Houstonfest I went to the Floyd Country Store Friday Night concert sponsored by Hotel Floyd. The opening night of the concert series was Singer/songwriter night.
Here's some video of that night (the song is in parts because Flikr only allows 1 1/2 minute upload per vid.)
