I'll start off suggesting Iris DeMent.

She has a new album coming out in October and would be a great fit for Merlefest.

Billboard story about the new album is here: Iris DeMent to 'Sing the Delta,' First New Music in 16 Years

I nominate Mr. Dave, here playing Revenge Will Come, at this year's Reno, Nevada, Ukelele Festival

David Lindleypowered by Aeva

Imagine the Slide Zone that we could get lost in! David Lindley, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, Randy Kohrs, et al. should hang awhile  at Tut Taylor's Pickin' Place! Wooo Hooo! And if circumstances work out where he could bring along Jackson Browne, you won't hear me complain.

I like Craig's idea of Iris DeMent a great deal - no if's, but's or maybe's - just Yes !

David Lindley ? another yes but....

Now I know of David's association with Jackson Browne and I am a big fan of Jackson Browne's records but I have seen him twice and each time he has, at some point, had a hissy fit (connipity fit) so maybe I am bad luck for JB but....nah !

However, one of my favourite gigs ever was seeing David Lindley & Ry Cooder (front row at Hammersmith Odeon on my birthday  Grin ) - so how about David & Ry ?

I'm on board with Mr. Dave and Ryland, too. Have seen them together and separately several times over the years.  Grin

Special to Stu: I saw Jackson Browne a few times in the 70s when David was in the band. They were great shows and David was sublime. I'm a big fan of Jackson and haven't seen a bad show.

I think I am just a bad omen for Jackson Browne  Grin

OK....

I just saw this via the IBMA Twitter feed... does this give us hope ?

Ry Cooder & Dan Gellert (Rayna's dad) playing together... how good is that ?

Wasn't real familiear with David Lindley but that vid that Rob posted blew me away.
It's strange how you mentioned Ry Cooder. I have a small book (about the size of a CD) that comes with a Cd by Ry Cooder. It was just sitting in a pile of CD's on a shelf til my cat knocked it over. So I played the CD.
The book is about a cat called Buddy. It was given to me on my birthday because I had a cat at the time named Buddy
(poor cat had cancer, keep him alive with blood transfusions for 2 years and than had him put to sleep the day after Neew year's Cry.
The story of Buddy( the CD and book) is like the story of Woody Guthrie. A wandering Hobo cat with his friends he picks up along the way and the labor camps. Would luv to have Ry autograph the book.

OK, I did post and run. Work interfering with my music.

John's just a baby, with a old soul. Great song writer and plays a mean piano to.

Born in Okemah OK. Does that ring a bell?

Thanks for posting the video.
