Craig, Ralph, crowjane & Jason have really said it all for me... what a sad day.

There will be many obituaries but here is one from The Guardian newspaper in England

Rest in peace, Doc

Gosh, what sad news to start the day with.

Doc was a special and unique man in so many ways.  We are indeed fortunate to have had the opportunity to see him every year for all these years.

Rest easy Doc.

eTown tribute - Nick Forster interview with Doc Watsonpowered by Aeva

Just came across this interview of Doc by Nick Forster on his etown radio show a half-dozen years back. Nick played Merlefest many times over the years with Tim O'Brien, Pete Wernick and the late Charles Sawtelle (and in more recent years, Brian Sutton) in Hot Rize. etown even recorded shows at Merlefest one year.

Saw this tribute from the great music photographer Jim McGuire in Garden & Gun magazine. http://www.gardenandgun.com/blog/photographer-jim-mcguire-doc-watson. Linked at both the beginning and end of the article is another tribute from Seth Avett, who states, "His was a voice of unparalleled temperament, even and strong, graceful yet gloriously matter-of-fact. It truly was, and will remain, one of our classic American voices..." I was privileged to hear that voice and those magical digits dance across six strings many, many times. Doc's influence really is universal; as Tim O'Brien said, "...he's inside so many of us and his influence is so great that he's not very far away."

There has of course been alot of tributes to Doc Watson. I didn't know there was a museum. This is from an article in the Kruger Brothers monthly newletter. Does anyone know about the Festival that is mentioned?

The Kruger Brothers have been
included in an exhibit in the Doc
and Merle Watson Folk Art
Museum located in the Old Cove
Creek School in Sugar Grove, NC.
The museum collects artifacts and
stories related to Appalachian Folk
Art and the music and lives of Doc
and Merle Watson. The KBs are
proud to have a story board about
their musical career included in the
museum. ● The KBs played
alongside Charles Welch, Wayne
Henderson and others in a tribute
to Doc Watson at the annual
Musicfest n’ Sugar Grove, a
festival held on July 13 and 14 in
Sugar Grove, NC. The festival is one
that has been closely associated
with Watson, with proceeds going
in part to fund the Doc and Rosa
Lee Watson Scholarship benefiting
students enroled in the
Appalachian State University’s
Sustainable Development Program.
Watson had been scheduled to play
the festival on July 14. ►

Not familiar with Sugar Grove, Bill, but if you find out more then share it with us please  Wink

I have just seen an announcement of a tribute to Doc by David Holt taking place this Sunday afternoon, August 12th, at 3pm in Asheville

"Doc Watson left an amazing legacy of music and stories. Hailed as one the countries greatest folk musicians Doc has left an indelible mark on American music and culture. David Holt traveled and performed with Doc for the last 14 years. Doc became his mentor and "musical father."

In the Tribute Holt traces Watsons life through stories, songs and historic photographs.

"We know that Doc Watson is a national treasure and David's warm loving tribute to him reminds us why! Full of humor and heart. Our audiences loved it." "

The event will take place this Sunday afternoon, August 12th at the Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville
