sad news indeed, but his inspiration at bringing this style of music back jto the mainstream will continue thru The Carolina Chocolate Drops. The video is of Joe practicing in his backyard getting ready for the Merlefest 2009 that he performed at.

Sad to hear that Nat Reese has passed.

I was unaware of Nat until gail53 gave me a nudge in his direction. There are many tunes that could be posted to remember Nat but this seems to be an appropriate one....

Andy Griffith  :'(
best know for his role as Andy Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show in the town of Mayberry (Mt. Airy, NC).
But he also had a musical career as pointed out in this article on CMT.

The Andy Griffith Show wasn't shown on UK TV when I was a kid (as far as I can remember).

I know from my US friends that the show and it's characters and the actors that portrayed them were much loved...none more so than Andy Griffith.

Sad news indeed

Susanna Clark passed away on the 27th June.

There are various tributes around but this one on No Depression written by Tamara Saviano brought a lump to my throat.

But what better tribute than this song from Guy :

Thanks for letting us know, Stu. That's sad indeed, and it's quite a story how devoted Doc and Rosa Lee were to each other.

Sad to hear that Mike Auldridge has passed away  :'(

Founder of Seldom Scene and, doubtless, an inspiration to countless resophonic players.

A 'tribute' website has been created which you may like to visit.

Thanks for that link, Stu. Mike was one of the greats. I first heard him when he played with Cliff Waldron and the New Shades of Grass (check out their album "Traveling Light"). Despite his illness he was able to stay active almost to the end.

Watching  the show Entertainment Tonight, I just heard that Patty Page passed away Jan 1. She probably is best known for Tennessee Waltz which is the third highest selling single.

I heard the news Friday morning at Sewerfest. "The Possum" was such a musical icon that artists throughout the weekend acknowledged from Merlefest's stages that George Jones's death was a loss to the world of music. When even Warren Haynes and James Nash - not exactly your traditional country musicians - recognized that loss, you knew the reach of Jones's influence was far. His funeral service in Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House was attended by a constellation of stars and a First Lady; Merlefest's Thursday night headliner, Charlie Daniels, gave a moving tribute. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-207_162-57582503/friends-pay-tribute-to-george-jones-at-funeral/ But this video of Alan Jackson from his show in Atlanta the evening of the day George Jones passed away is especially moving on several levels.

One has to wonder if he's checked in with St. Peter yet - Rest In Peace, No Show Jones.
